August Devotional

Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:2

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2

How many times in a day do you find yourself losing focus? How easy is it to find yourself slipping into gossip with a co-worker? How many times do you find yourself letting go of your peace and finding anger or fear instead?

If we are honest with ourselves and God we can say this happens to us many times throughout our day BUT this isn’t something to make us feel bad about. Instead when these moments happen and letting it ruin our day, we can take it as it is: a moment. One moment in our day not the whole day. So when these moments pop up let’s learn to reset our minds.

The word says that we are to set our minds on things above and that we are transformed by the renewing of our minds. The word transformed means make a thorough or dramatic change in the form, appearance, or character of. Wow! When we stop, pray and refocus our minds on God, on heavenly things not what’s happening around us we are making a dramatic change! We are changing our mental and emotional state, we are changing our physical appearance, and people will literally see a difference in you the moment you refocus and in our character: our qualities and moral actions will change!

How powerful! So let’s start today! Let’s go moment by moment, there will be times we don’t reset our minds because we are human but when we choose to stop and refocus not only will it help us, it will also be a testimony to all those around you that you are being transformed.

Being transformed is a process and sometimes it’s not pretty but its real and in the end it’s a beautiful result.
