March Devotional
Colossians 2:2-3 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Fun Fact: The most expensive patchwork quilt ever sold at auction is a Civil War-era quilt known as the Reconciliation Quilt. It was bought for $264,000 at Sotheby’s in 1991.
Did you know the family of God is one big patchwork quilt; that has been sewn together with the thread of God’s love?
A piece of scrap fabric may not look like much to some but in the hands of another it can be made into something beautiful and of value. The devil may tell you or others that you are just a piece of scrap fabric that needs to be thrown away, but to God you were worth Jesus.
He sees where we’ve been torn and worn. Maybe where we have missed out on an opportunity to be used before. He sees it all and He wants to take all of that and erase the pain, embrace His grace and be made into something new.
Where we were once saw as worthless, now we are priceless. Worth the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.
On your own, you still have worth but God doesn’t want it to stop there. He wants to sew you up close with someone else, with the thread of His love.
Because just like each piece of fabric has a different design, color or pattern; the same is true for us.
How does fabric get its different patterns? The designs are transferred from pre-printed transfer paper onto fabric by contact heat – basically a big oven. When we receive Jesus, we are branded by the Holy Spirit and purified by His fire.
The more we are transformed by Him and reject conforming to the world; the more we show Jesus in our actions; the more defined our pattern is.
According to the degree and way you have seen Jesus: you will reflect Him in a different way.
Part of the reason patchwork quilts are so beautiful is because of all the different colors and designs on the fabrics. We each look different, on the outside and inside, according to how we’ve met Jesus, different struggles we’ve gone through and how He has shown Himself faithful to us. We are induvial and have the same core thread of Jesus’ love but we are not identical and that’s beautiful.
No matter how good the fabric, a quilt is worthless if it falls apart due to bad thread. We know that our love is worthless, the only true love is God’s love for us and the only way we can show true love is to know His. (1 John 4:19)
To see the whole picture of Jesus. To understand Him. To know His treasure of His wisdom and knowledge. We must be sewn together with the thread of love, as that happens we begin to see an amazing image of God being made.
